Biometrics

LATEST UPDATE – 24 November 2025

  • The Australian Immi App (AIA) streamlines client experience by providing the option for applicants to use the app rather than attending an Australian Biometric Collection Centre (ABCC) for subsequent visa applications. It also reduces the costs associated with a visa application as there is no charge to use the app.
  • The app provides the ability for clients to scan the biographic page of their passport, read their passport e-chip (where available) and capture a facial image.
  • To be eligible to use the app, clients must have previously provided their biometrics (facial image and fingerprints) to the Department and hold a valid passport.
  • All children under five years of age are also eligible to submit their facial biometrics and passport details through the app, even those who have not previously attended an ABCC.
  • From Monday, 24 November 2025, the app will be available to be used in 34 countries including: Algeria, Bahrain, Colombia, Egypt, Fiji, France, Greece, Hong Kong (Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China), Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand (third-country nationals), Oman, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Philippines, Qatar, Samoa, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Solomon Islands, South Africa, South Korea, Thailand, Tonga, Türkiye, Tuvalu, United Arab Emirates, Vanuatu.

If you have not previously provided biometrics and you have received a written request to provide your biometric identifier (digital facial image and fingerprint scan), you must attend one of the Australian Biometrics Collection Centres to submit your biometrics.

Please note that to submit your biometrics at the Australian Biometric Collection Centre you must book an appointment. Applicants can make an appointment on the VFS - Australian Biometric Collection Centre website. The Australian Biometric Collection Centre, operated by VFS, will charge a fee for this service.

Please be advised biometrics are required for each and every application made, regardless of whether you have lodged a visa application in the last few years. Delays in providing biometrics will cause delays in the processing of visa applications and failure to provide biometrics can result in your application being refused.

If you are outside Türkiye and are required to undertake biometrics, please visit offices outside Australia to find the nearest Australian Biometrics Collection Centre.

If you have been requested to provide biometrics but are unable to do so, please contact VFS directly through their Customer Feedback Management Form.
